Drive link finder

Leaving Google Drive starts with knowing what links to it. Paste text or choose an export from your CRM, spreadsheet or database, and get every Drive link grouped by the file it points to. It runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Why start here

When we began moving our own files out of Google Drive, 592 links in our records turned out to point at only 186 files and folders, and 4 of them were already broken. Knowing that early changes the job: you move 186 things, not 592, and you find the broken ones while Drive can still tell you what they were.

  • Google-format documents (Docs, Sheets, Slides) aren't files. Each must be exported to an ordinary format before you leave. In our Drive, 99 of 14,385 files needed converting.
  • The same file can be linked in several styles. Old open?id= links, /file/d/ links and download links all name the same file ID. Rewrite links by ID.
  • Keep the old link in a separate field when you rewrite one, so nothing is lost if a mapping turns out wrong.

The download includes an empty new_location column, ready for your mapping. This tool can't check whether a link still works: that needs access to the Drive account.
